Our Story
Surrounded by the wonderful National Park countryside,the Stripey Badger is the perfect place to experience Yorkshire hospitality at its best. Sister businesses, the Stripey Badger Coffee Shop & Kitchen is run by Jacqui, who prides herself on home baking and on showcasing Yorkshire treats. The independent Stripey Badger Bookshop next door is run by Linda, who has had a lifetime ambition to run a bookshop, and son James. In November 2021, Lyndsey, an illustrator @Oddfoxillustration and very knowledgeable about books, joined the team.
The bookshop stocks titles of all genres for adults and children, as well as book-related gifts and cards, and Yorkshire maps and guide books for the visitor.
Books Are My Bag Readers Award
In 2021, James was on the panel to choose the shortlisted books for Books Are My Bag 2021 Readers Awards and was also at the awards ceremony to present the winner of the Young Adult Fiction category.
The awards ceremony was hosted by Claudia Winkleman, who said, and we quote
'The Stripey Badgers, hello, who wouldn't want to move in there. I don't care what they sell, but they are an excellent bookshop'
James Patterson's Young Bookseller Special Achievement Award
In 2019 James was selected as one of twenty booksellers to recieve the James Patterson's Young Bookseller Special Acheivement Award. This award, sponsored by author James Patterson is awarded to young booksellers for their work in the bookselling industry
Best Shop/Retailer in Stray FM's Skipton and Beyond Award
the Stripey Badger won Best Shop/Retailer in the Stray FM Skipton & Beyond Awards in 2018. Both Linda and Jacqui went to the award ceremony to collect the award
